What actually drives the price
Parts: OEM, aftermarket or recycled
The same fender can cost $180 aftermarket or $650 from the dealer. Insurers usually authorize aftermarket or recycled parts on older vehicles and OEM on newer ones. We list the part type on every line of the estimate so you can see exactly what you are paying for.
Paint work and blending
Refinishing a panel is rarely a one-panel job. To keep the repair invisible, color has to be blended into the doors or quarter panel next to it, which adds labor and material. Metallic, pearl and tri-coat colors take more time than solid colors.
Hidden damage found at teardown
A bumper cover often hides a cracked absorber, a bent reinforcement bar or broken radar bracket. That is why an estimate written from the outside can grow once the car is apart. We tear down before ordering parts so the number you get is the number you pay.
Sensors, cameras and driver assist
Parking sensors, blind spot radar and forward cameras live in bumpers, mirrors and windshields. Removing, reinstalling and in some cases recalibrating them adds real cost on 2018-and-newer vehicles.
Structural versus cosmetic damage
Cosmetic damage stops at the skin. Once the impact reaches the frame rails or unibody, the car has to be measured on a frame machine and pulled back to factory spec. That is the single biggest jump in a collision bill.
Vehicle make and model
Aluminum-body trucks, European luxury cars and EVs cost more to repair because of specialized parts, bonded panels and required procedures. A Camry bumper and a Model Y bumper are not the same job.
Insurance claim or pay out of pocket?
- In Nevada you choose the repair shop — your insurer can recommend one, but they cannot require it.
- Compare the repair estimate to your deductible before filing. A $600 bumper repair on a $1,000 deductible is cheaper out of pocket and keeps your premium alone.
